New Year...

So here we are at the beginning of a new calendar year. For many this is a time of making new commitments or resolutions to alter our habitual patterns and behaviors.  It's hard for me to buy into to the hype. Mostly because my personal "New Year" is celebrated at the height of the summer, when my energy levels are high, when the sun is shining at it highest point and when there are plenty of hours of daylight to actualize an inner motivation fully externally.  For me, this time of year is meant for dreaming and scheming, for feeling the deep feels, for going within to restore and replenish my body and psyche.  For planting the seeds that will gestate an be birthed when the sun is at the highest point in the sky...

What would it be like if we  allowed our dreams (or self-commitments or resolutions) to percolate through these darkest months? What if we spent this time going within, slowing down and experiencing the rhythm of the earth, of the season, of our bodies. What if we spent this time metabolizing the unfinished business of the previous season. What if we took the time to digest the overwhelming experiences life has presented us with?

I'm giving myself permission to rest and digest, to plant seeds, to dream dreams, to sleep 10-13 hr nights, to deeply listen to my body, to give equal attention to pleasure and discomfort, and to take this time to reconfigure...The rhythm of life will be bursting forth soon enough, I'm going to settle into the pregnant pause now, full of both discomfort and pleasure.
